HOME OUR STORY PHOTOS VOLUNTEER TIGER ISLAND LINKS

“Tiger Island” will be a large piece of land with a deep high-sided moat around it so that the tigers can have somewhere to roam free for at least some of the time. There would also be a walkway around the moat so that tourists could watch the tigers roaming.

20 million baht is required to complete the project. This is about £300,000.

Hopefully a large amount of this money can be raised from the entrance fees charged to tourists.

The entrance fee is 300 Baht (approx $10 USD), which is a lot of money for Thailand. However, if the tigers can be quickly given their new home, the fee is worth it.

We were at the temple for one week. The visitor numbers were as follows:

Friday, 10 March 2006
Saturday, 11 March 2006
Sunday, 12 March 2006
Monday, 13 March 2006
Tuesday, 14 March 2006
Wednesday, 15 March 2006
Thursday, 16 March 2006
TOTAL
268
196
198
281
258
167
269
1637

That amounts to almost $16,500 for the week on entrance fees alone. Even assuming that visitor numbers do not increase, (we are sure they will), this is $850,000 in one year. The temple also sells T-Shirts and baseball caps and accepts donations.

A new home for the tigers by March 2007 then???

Hopefully, we can go back and see.
